It's a Family Affair

Rowan Catering is a family business, Rowan is the name of my daughter.  The idea came to me shortly after my (now) husband proposed to me. We wanted a small wedding, around 100 people, and had a very small budget.  While searching options for food, we quickly realized that we couldn't afford what we wanted to serve. We wanted to create our own menu, a little bit of this and that, something for everyone.  No one remembers wedding food, but we wanted to change that; we wanted it to be good and memorable. My husband wanted a taco bar and lobster mac and cheese, with big chunks of real lobster. I wanted a couple of really good salads and an authentic rice dish my mom makes.  I also wanted a dessert table with sweets from some of my favorite bakeries in the city. Simply put, we wanted options! However, our options were limited. We found that many caterers offered a standard menu, you had to choice within their offerings. The few that would allow us to customize our menu would put us way over budget.  We couldn't serve my mom's rice, if cooked by her, and our dessert table had to be provided by the catering company. It was frustrating, paying more than we wanted only to get less than expected.

We came up with a third options, getting what we wanted within our budget.  Working with a chef friend, we created a menu that was both tasteful, affordable, and appealed to the variety of our guests.  It worked out well! The service was impeccable and everyone raved about the food, even months later. Our wedding was the beginning of something that should have started long ago.

Rowan Catering was formed to bridge the gap between sustainable, great tasting food and realistic budgets.  My partner and I both worked in the restaurant industry years prior and always discussed starting something of our own. When this opportunity came to not only design and cater our wedding but to also help others with a realistic (parents may not be helping out and/or we'd rather not go into debt over this wedding) budget, it seemed, like our relationship and our little girl, meant to be.

At Rowan, the possibilities are endless.  We've been where you are...perfect spaces that offer not so perfect food options (or none at all), perfect spaces that offers options that are beyond your budget, or you simply don't want to 'customize a standard menu'.  We can work with you to create a personalized menu that fits within your budget. Or, if you have a menu in mind, we find ways to execute it, still within your budget. No event is too big or too small, we handle it all. Our prices are competitive and with our menu choices, you'll have a variety of options to personalize your event.

Our Menus

We ALL have different needs, that's why our menu can be customized to whatever your needs may be.  While few people may want to pick options from the standard menu, most already have a menu in mind prior to contacting a caterer.  They During your consulation, we discuss the event, your ideas, possibilities, and come up with a menu just for you.  We strive to use organic and locally sourced products whenever we can.  Although we are not GF Certified, we can customize our menu to accommodate most dietary restrictions such as a Paleo or Gluten Free diet
